GIVING AND RECEIVING WITH GRATITUDE

Harris-Courage & Grady, PLLC Nov. 26, 2015

The ability to help those in need is one of life’s greatest joys.

However, giving creates more benefits than just feeling good about helping others.

A few benefits of giving:

  1. Giving reduces stress. Lowering the level of stress chemicals in your body will improve your health. It will help you feel happier and able to accomplish more.

  2. You’ll enjoy a longer life. Studies have shown that people who volunteer or give to charity live longer than those who don’t.

  3. Creating a sense of abundance. You show yourself that there is enough for everyone. Giving some of your time or money to those in need demonstrates your belief that enough exists for everyone. This will help you overcome the fear of scarcity.

  4. Karma works. You can’t truly know the full impact of your willingness to help others. It all comes back around eventually. Doing good things for others increases the likelihood of others doing the same in return. In fact, you’ll probably find that you receive more than you give.

Give.

You’ll feel great about your willingness to share yourself and your resources, and you’ll benefit financially and spiritually.

Receiving with Grace.

Receiving is just as important as giving. Some of us have a hard time receiving a compliment, gift, or money. We may feel guilty or think we don’t deserve it.

Any time you receive something positive, be thankful. Learn to accept things graciously and to believe that you deserve them.

Gratitude has positive consequences that impact all aspects of your life. Being thankful is especially important during challenging times.

It’s easy to become preoccupied with the shortages in life, especially during times of financial stress. Being thankful redirects your focus and makes progress possible again. Gratitude can re-establish perspective.
